Hello Guys,

I have like two or three HD around my studio full with photos and I would like to have everything in the same place and organize. Which application is best for organizing photos and it's easy to search when I need to look one up. I know there is Bridge and Lightroom so maybe you guys can tell me your feedback on those and any other application.

Thanks

You need to look into DAM (Digital Asset Management) software. DAM software will usually create thumbnails of the originals and store these in a DB. You then add Metadata against the records such as keywords or category data. It will keep track of the originals and the edited files, you can store them in what ever folder structure works for you ie multiple hard drives across a network. You add keywords for Wildlife, landscape etc and will sort and display images based on your keywords, independent of what folder they are stored in. All DAM software has no trouble with RAW, TIFF, JPG or whatever.

Some common DAM software.

I use and recommend IMatch, and I use Lightroom for it's editing features - not as DAM software. Most of my editing is done in CS4 but I also use Lightroom to do bulk stuff. I store my photos on my Laptop and on my Windows Home Server.

I wrote a fair bit more about my workflow and IMatch in this thread here. Although that was written a few years back my workflow is largely unchanged. This is an important point, once you work out [U]what work for you[/U,] you must stick to it and use that system every time you shoot.

This thread has talk a little more about keywords and file naming.
