they automatically think they're a photographer. But it goes beyond that. They start a page on FB and charge to take pictures.

What do you think about this?

its the way of the world amd has been discussed on here a number of times in 1 way or the other..you can either rail against it (to no avail) or accept that its the way its going to be and move on..;)

EOS 6d, 7dMKII, Tokina 11-16, Tokina 16-28, Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8, Sigma 17-50 F/2.8, Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L, Canon 70-200 F/2.8L, Mixed Speedlites and other stuff.

When it ceases to be fun, it will be time to walk away

They should be tarred and feathered, then run out of town on a rail!

But seriously... There are similar people in all professions and occupations. Having a stove and some pots doesn't make you a chef. Most of these people quickly become disillusioned when confronted with reality and quietly fall by the wayside. A fair percentage learn that you have to pay some dues in life and persevere long enough to become successful. And a small percentage show true inspired genius with even the most basic of equipment.

I dont think about them. I worry about me.

Crying on the internet about your competition is not gonna help you. Spend that time and energy learning how to market and sell yourself

I think "more power to 'em" because I was that guy less than 6 years ago. Except the facebook part. ;)

Pretty much. I'm too busy trying to one-up myself to see who's behind me. I get downright pissed if I don't improve on what I did last time.

My problem is the opposite. I just purchased a EOS 1000D with the 2 kit lenses and every thinks I should take their pictures for them. Now I'm sure no photographer and bought the camera to replace my old G3 that quit working. I got it to take vacation shots, work related (non photographic quality type) etc. Just always love the SLR from years ago when I owned several and was serious about it as a hobby. Now I simply prefer them but don't need top of the line as the bit of difference means little to me now as long as the pictures are clear enough to understand.

Well said. I started w/ an XT and a 28-135 and now look. Yep, you guessed it, I gave away quite a few pics. Who cares? Apparently all those whining about the GWCs. So, they bought a camera and lens. Who really piss me off, and I let them know about it, are the site managers, ADs or whoever, that let parents on the sideline because they know them. They don't have the first flippin' clue about where to stand, or not stand for that matter and don't know proper etiquette. That's about the only part that pisses me off about GWCs, not because they're there with a camera. It's because they don't know and don't respect the rules (whether written or unwritten).

It's the marketing that is the most important, not the tools.

I add them to my register as I diligently police bad photographers on the internet.
