I put that as a joke, but I am starting to feel limited in my t2i. The kit lens only kept my interest for about 2 weeks. I am approaching 1 year of seriously being interested and I think my work is getting to the point where I could charge for it. I don't know how some people get the courage to do weddings with little experience, but I would feel comfortable doing some portraits or other small jobs. I'm considering upgrading to a 7d and selling my t2i. I really wanted to go up to a 5d, but there is so many rumors of a new version coming, so I think I am going to buy a 70-200 mII first. I have to admit though, I was wondering how the craigslist people could make any money at the tiny margins they were asking for. I figured it had to be a trap though.

I'm curious, what specifically about the T2i is limiting to you? (I'm still working on bumping up against the limit on mine, but I'm getting close as well)

For me, I hate to admit it, but I'm beginning to wonder if a higher burst rate would come in handy (lots of motor sports) at times. I can't think of a shot I've missed because of a lack of being able to just pray and spray, but I _can_ think of a few situations were I could have gotten a really interesting series if I could click off 7fps instead of 5...

For one, I have found myself getting wet in more situations than I thought I would. Although I've done a good job sheilding the camera, I've hurt myself in fear (think slip and fall). The ISO increments are better on xxd and higher up. The shutter speeds I just recently found are about double. I also keep hearing about this excellent focusing system in the 7d. I don't burst often, but it only takes about 4 or 5 shots before the t2i slows down. I'm also interested in getting into multi flash setups and I hear the 7d has a controller built in, so I don't have to get that pricey add-on. The 5d has me sold on ISO performance alone, aside from several other little perks. Coming off a P&S powershot A580 previously, the t2i has blown my mind and really got me interested in doing more with photography. Even on the point and shoot I was producing better pictures than most do, but the slr really opened my opened my eyes and got me interested in the massive amounts of technical details and creativity possible.

New Mexican women typically measure about 500,000 Scoville Units. :D

Think about it: Pros charge alot of money because they have alot of expenses. I don't.

Pros have:
-a business license
- multiple cameras
-thousands of dollars in lenses and flashes
-hard drives to back up the images
-insurance
-experience
-people skills <---------------

How many people who are now full time did not start in the same way?

I bought a camera/lens setup, self taught to get proficient, started offering my services at low end prices, then worked my way up with additional training, workshops, practice, better equipment, assisting, etc.

Most photographers I know have started in similar ways. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as they are charging appropriate for their level of work. There will always be $50 portrait photographers, $2,500 portrait photographers, and $5,000 portrait photographers.

If they are doing $50 portraits and delivering quality expected with basement level equipment and skills, they aren't hurting anyone else and filling a need in the low end of the market. I can't see why any experienced photographer with adequate skills would care about what happens at the low end of the market. Their clients are forwards, not backwards ;)

I say “good on them” for having a go, every “professional photographer” had to start at the bottom and work their way up. Either they will learn and succeed or they will fade into oblivion as a professional.

“Professional photographers” who see a newcomer with a DSLR and kit lens as a threat to their business, need to assess their own capability as a professional. They should spend more time worrying about their own clients, photo quality and business practice before they worry about someone else’s.

The world of professional photography has changed, deal with it. Whinging online won’t change a thing. Put your energy into adapting to the situation or if it is stressing you out so much, get out of the business and let some brilliant new starter with a DSLR and kit lens take your place.

they automatically think they're a photographer. But it goes beyond that. They start a page on FB and charge to take pictures.

What do you think about this?

I’m sure there is a journalism forum where Reporters are gathering to complain about Bloggers, while the news industry burns down around their feet.

No, I'm not a professional photographer, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Its always the teenage girls that get their dslr kit, and then they post all their pictures on fb, and they try to take these artsy photos. I always lol.

Its good that they're getting into it, and there's a learning curve. But all of them always think they're taking these great photos when in reality......

Maybe there great photos to them and that is all they have to be.

I didn't read through all 4 pages, so this may have been mentioned already, but I'd like to know what is wrong with the 24-105 f/4L lens? That is the "kit" lens that came with my 5D Mark II...

Its the f/"x"L part that makes it bad, well slow, still good stills :S; but from what ive heard/been told, the lower the f number is, the better, like the iris in your eye, the lower the number, the wider it can open, and the more light.
--------
I had it the other way around, I bought a kit, being it came with two lens (re-sold on ebay/ gotta love it for a profit)
But people were already asking if I was to become a pro... wow, im a trucker, and I do 3d modeling, I dont need photography as well :P (oh, and im a sparky by trade)

This elitist bollocks is really nauseating.

Someone give this guy a schmoke and a pancake.

Spot on. Most of the actual pro's don't care who is in front or behind them in terms of photography - it's about you and your work.
