What do you think is the best option. Buy a 2nd hand 450D with 10,000 clicks or for a little bit more, buy a brand new but grey market 450D. I'm inclined to go for the latter but I've heard sad stories about grey market cameras. My thinking is at least it's covered by some sort of warranty where as the 2nd hand one, although the seller assures me it's working fine you dont know when it will do a dummy spit. I just wanted to read other opinions though. Oh, the camera is not for me.

When buying camera equipment I. prefer new rather than used. If it were me I would buy a broken point and shoot and then use the canon loyalty program. A perfectly good refurbished camera with a warranty. That is the next best thing to new.

Unfortunately Canon doesn't treat it's Aussie customers as well as it's US ones. We dont have a loyalty program.

DWI seem to be the cheapest I've found. I bought my 7D from them.

I dont know about DWI but I have had good experiences with camerasdirect.com.au they may not always be the cheapest (although they often are) but they have a good reputation and are grey market sellers.

Just remember that canon camera bodies don't come with international warranties - they are region limited - so a grey import camera body has to go back to its country of origin if you want it fixed under warranty (unlike their lenses which have international warranties).

Refurbished might be a better approach since the warranty will at least be valid without having to send the camera halfway back across the world.

Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too
