My hat goes off to you for your patience and skill in child wrangling... :)

My attempt to shoot Christmas Card photos for my neighbour didn't go as well this year as it did last....

haha. I'm sorry, but I laughed at that first shot. Feel your pain! Looks like you got a somewhat nice one of her though.

Haha!! Yep, shoots like that do happen from time to time. The first shot is just funny! I love the last, though! :)

It is a pretty funny shot, isn't it? I cracked up when I first saw it as well.

Thanks for the comments and once again, I congratulate those that do this on a regular basis!

HEHE!! Sometimes the crying ones are the funniest ones!!

Just a question. What's your set up? I cannot seem to get the tree to blur with the lights showing and a crisp pic of my daugther without her having motion blur.

Would love for you to share a detailed description of the set up and settings.
Thanks

You would have to ask.... :) I TOTALLY screwed up! I was using a fast 50 and 24 prime in manual with one or two 580 EXII flashes mounted on umbrella stands. Kept my ISO at 100 and shot between 1.2 and 2.0 with my shutter speed too high at 1/250th. That gave me a nice black band across the bottom of the frame because my highest sync speed is 1/200th. Luckily, I had room to crop it out. :) I _think_ I had the flashes dialled down to between 1/4 and 1/2 power most of the time. The key was shoot through and was about 5 feet from the tree, camera left and mounted low on the stand. You can see on the crying shots that she's pretty hot as she was walking right past it as she wigged out. :) The fill was about 10' back, camera right and was reflected from high up.

I have all the OK ones on my website here if you want to look:

Is that at your neighbors house? If so, dang, they are all decked out for X-Mas pretty early.

I haven't even thought about Christmas once this year yet. :P

I like #24 on your site. (the one you linked to) You're lighting looks pretty good, considering all the issues you explained. Live and learn, I guess. :)

Thanks for your comment! As for Christmas, they set up early because I suggested it'd be nicer than the white or black background in my basement. :)
