alright, here's just a few preliminaries but I shot an appalling 19 GB (923 to be exact) worth of pictures today.

these so far are the best (but still a lot of processing to do on the rest). gorgeous blue skies today.

Canon 5D-MkII with a 100-400mm telephoto lens. There was a lot of haze in the atmosphere today that wasn't related to the airshow and they really kill the backgrounds in some of my shots.

C&C welcome, I think we're going again tomorrow, I want to get some hi-def video of some other performances.

Very well done! Hope our conversation over in Talk, helped...

I am curious though about seeing dust spots on Jet photos. That tells me that
A) Your sensor is thoroughly filthy and you have dust showing up at relatively large apertures
B) You could have gone with an even faster shutter speed because you're still at f/8 or smaller where dust begins to show up

Nice series of shots. I better see if my sensor needs cleaning as well.

Very nice shots - if you will be out there today I'm actually working the event, stop by the 455th FTS booth! Lt Sullivan by the T-6a.

where are you seeing dust spots at? Camera is less than 2 months old, and i haven't used it very much up until now, less than 1000 exposures and I've always stored everything when it's not in use, with the appropriate lens covers, and used the auto clean feature before the show to clean the sensor. wondering if maybe it's the canon 100-400 lens I rented?

Yeah, dust specks here and there. For example, if you look at the F-18 (Super?)Hornet (your 3rd photo in this thread), find the cockpit, and then slowly move up and there's a darker gray circular spot.

Same thing with the F-15 (#2 in the thread), along the top, near the center, dark spot.

Fat Albert shot (nose cone, trace upwards and you see a spot), etc...

I'm just pointing out the bigger ones but there are smaller ones here and there.

One reason your seeing dust is your shooting at ISO 400. This increases your DOF. You should never use anything but ISO100 in the sun. Trust me, set it at 100, and LEAVE IT.

thanks for the tips on the dust specs, these are just prelims, haven't had time to play with photoshop yet and actually edit.

thanks again for the iso tips.

I stopped by after wandering about like a fool looking for a tent that displayed the 455th TFS on it, and never seeing anything lol. Finally found it at 11 am and was informed you had just taken off moments earlier with a lawn chair to find a spot to enjoy the airshow.
