How do you sort import presets in Lightroom?

How do you sort your import presets? Just the amount of presets that are in there with a fresh install is tiresome to scroll through. Then add the ones you download and your own on top of that and it gets to a point where it's quicker to deal with it after you've imported your images. I want a way to only show a certain set of presets in the dropdown list. It could be a type of "list favorites at top of list" or "show presets in their native folder structure" type of solution, just something to get out of the chaos that's there now.

How to edit the behavior of that dropdown?

This is one item you can't change. I don't know why they insist on doing it this way, it is really aggravating!!!

I'm not sure if it will work, but maybe change the name of the most common used presets so that they appear on top. I rarely use presets and have contemplated just deleting them all!

Presumably you're talking about Develop presets and not Import presets; there are a difference between the two although you can apply Develop presets when importing images. Import presets are created in the Import dialog box and control the source of your images, "how" the images are linked to Lightroom's database, whether or not images are moved, converted to DNG, etc.

Your Develop presets can be organized into folders to make them easier to scroll through. Unfortunately you can't do nested folders so you're limited to one level of folders.

To organize your Develop Presets into folders; navigate to C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets or equivalent path (dependent on your operating system) and add named folders. You can then drag and drop your presets into the named folders and they will show up in Lightroom's Develop Presets panel.

Here's how my presets are organized:

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/png'

However the most logical option is to resist downloading and installing presets you're unlikely to use. When I first started I downloaded every preset I could find but quickly realized that I'd never use them; so now apart from a few commercial preset packages I prefer to make my own.

+1 to what PixelMagic suggests -- one useful approach would be to create an Import Presets folder and then put in your most common presets that you would apply to an entire import (maybe named like Picture Styles or such) -- a Calibration profile applied along with common tweaks and you are on your way, and putting them in your one folder will make scrolling much quicker.

Yeah, sorry, I meant develop presets. I have mine organized similar to yours. I specifically meant choosing develop presets during import. I take it you do this after import.

I have downloaded very few presets, but in order to make presets useful for me I need to have them pretty specific, so all in all it adds up to a pretty long list when you list all of them. All I wanted was a way to chose what presets gets listed in the import dialog (alternatively sort them in a specific order). Whatever you name your user presets folder they get listed at the end of the list, and conversely the Lightroom default presets gets listed at the top. The way Lightroom behaves with these presets folders is very unintuitive and frustrating, one of many reasons why I have a love/hate relationship with this program, but I'll have to get back to that because I have to run now!

More to follow.

After importing a folder containing files shot RAW/ or JPEG+RAW in LR3 library, when i click on thumbnails on the bottom of the screen shows CR#+JPEG and about 4000x3000 size: If i move one of this files in Develop Room, does it contain the RAW , JPEG or both? Sorry for my sily question, but i searched this forum i can't find help and i'm still lost in pixels.

Wherever you told LR to put them...
Depends on what you chose upon import.

Don't understand what you mean...

Sounds like you don't have this box ticked in the prefs:

Both I think. Also: If you edit an image, I believe you are working on the Raw.
Not entirely sure, since I never felt the need to shoot Raw+jpg. ;)
