When in manual mode can you set different power levels (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc.)? with the 270Ex flash? I assume this would be done on the camera menu since the 270EX doesn't have a screen. The Canon web site doesn't mention this ability. Thanks.

in manual mode it goes down to 1/64 in 1/3 stop steps, but you are right, you have to change flash settings in the camera menus.

Yes, in manual mode you can set the strength like that, as well as 1st or 2nd curtain sync, or HSS.
You can also see the zoom setting (28 or 50mm), but it has to be changed manually.
The camera can sense if the flash is bounced or not, so the Auto ISO in P mode is adjusted accordingly, just like with a 580 EX II.

In E-TTL II mode you can set the sync curtain, FEC (+/- 3 stops, probably +/- 2 with cameras not supporting more) and E-TTL II metering pattern.

You can also set two of the 14 custom functions the 580 EX II supports, 1 and 6. They control auto power off and continuous shooting with Quickflash.
