Only my second time shooting hockey tonight, and I've learned a few things already (closer crops!) - I usually shoot live music, so this is all new to me!

How can I improve on these?

Thanks for your input in advance!

And finally ... I for some reason find face-off shots quite cool ... dunno if that's because I play the game myself. I also liked how I caught the logo on the puck in this one.

They're not bad shots. But you've seen the "Don't eat yellow snow!" joke? Take a shot of the ice & use that for a custom white balance next time.

I've got to admit - I have no clue how to set my White balance against the ice. How do I go about that?!

Its in the manual. There are a couple of ways you can do it. The other thing is it looks as though you are sitting in the stands. Get down by the ice to shoot. Not sure what you are allowed to do or not do but you want to be on the same level as the players.

If I remember it right. Take a shot of the ice. Then in the menu for white balance go to the custom icon and set it custom. It will ask you if you want to use the last shot taken for your custom white balance. Click set and your good to go.
Just remember to reset when you shoot in another light.
You should get something like this.
