I am SOO not a pet photographer....but, I love colors and light in each though the top one could use a wee bit more warmth.. it looks a little muddied. Also, I think the overall compositions on both are good. My dislikes are that the dog is really sad looking in both. Is something wrong with him like a sickness or age or is that just the way he is? Also, the bottom shot with the colored string/leash leads my eyes right out of the picture. It's distracting also the pipe in the background is aimed right at the dogs head...maybe that's the reason he's sad? :( HTH FWIW!

 I can't believe after ALL these years, I finally have a 5D MKII!!! It's glorious! It's MY PRECIOUS!!

Agree with above. Composition is good, but the first picture just kind of depresses me. Needs much more color/warmth.

Reminds me of my dog Stinger. Got him when I was 5, and now I'm 20, going on 21, so he's seen some years:

Your friends dog is very talented at taking pictures I just wish I could train mine to do that. He does need to take off his leash when he's taking his pictures, it's a little distracting; same with the bandana thing.

In all seriousness the last shot has some distractions in it, the leash, bandana and the rain gutter things kill the shot. After taking off the leash and bandana I would take a large step to the right and get down real real low, like down to his level. You'll be on all 4's and your elbows if you’re doing it right. By getting the camera a few inches off of the ground and shoot level you'll get nicer results.

Like the first one, the second has the leash chest problems as previously mentioned.

Tee hee -- your friend's dog is a good photographer sans opposable thumbs ;)

My sister has a beagle with the same look on his face. He's not a sad dog, that's just his face! He's a mellow dog at his older age...
