Hey all,

I would like to ask you to help me, a guy called me asking me to do a photoshoot to him, he might bring some females as well but not sure, so i don't know how to shoot those portraits outdoors for different concepts, where i can find about concepts/ideas/poses to do so? They are seniors and i can't think of something specific at the moment, so what will you do to shoot someone if you were asked for it?

And about the lighting, i am not sure how many shots i will take of them, but i will try to limit it below 100 or 200 when possible, i am just worry about the lighting outdoors as i am not sure for how long it can handle shooting them for hours.

Appreciate all the comments/recommendations/opinions/suggestions.

id just look in the photo sharing section and "steal" a bunch of ideas from there.

if it's just the guy, try look at http://www.modelmayhem.com/ (external link) for some samples of great model poses.

For one thing, you need to set some ground rules here. An open ended, "and i might bring some females, not sure" is not a happy. You need to put a limit on that nonsense, as it will effect the entire flow of the shoot and will cause you much, MUCH more time in post processing. You should know what you are getting going IN to this shoot, so I would limit it to one or two max, and charge more, for sure. What is this young man's goal in the shoot? To get Senior pics of himself? If that is case, proceed in setting your boundaries on that basis. "shooting for hours" is nothing you want to do. That would mean huge changes in light conditions, fatigue for both you and them. Also, If it takes 1/200th to get a shot, it takes 5 minutes to post process it, potentially. Take that into consideration too. Take charge now, and during the shoot. You'll thank me later.

I think you are right, i thought about that as it will confuse me to shoot more than one person alone, so i will ask him to be alone or if necessary on lady only, i know it will take time for PP but it seems if they will pay nothing [free] then i will not waste time on PP, i will give them the shots as they are without pp except some shots that needing some touches.

I would like to ask to get paid, but it seems they can't pay, if i ask them to pay then they will not come for photoshoot, that guy i did shoot him before so he liked my results so far, i was not sure he was thinking to do again but it seems that he want to try again with me, and i was thinking that as long he is a student and he has a lot of friends in colleges or around then maybe he can show them my work and this will give me more opportunity later to shoot people, i will try to tell them that i don't shoot free because it is a matter of time and effort and many things, if he respect and understand that then i think he will pay me that time or next time and he will tell others to do, just the problem here is that it is very very difficult to find people to shoot even friends, and friends are not helping at all to have a great photoshoot, this guy it seems he interested in modeling so he is coming with different dresses and maybe make-up which will help a lot for better ideas, but i really really want to get paid from anyone but not all of them are thinking to pay, those younger and seniors mostly looking for free photographers but they may pay after few times using us, when they will feel confident about us they will pay us later, if i will ask them NOW to pay they may go away to another experienced or pro photographer to pay instead of me as a hobbyist/amateur.

If you plan on shooting these for free in the hopes of getting paid work later, I would urge you to NOT give them unretouched prints. You want people showing off your BEST FINISHED WORK, if your goal is advertising. not unfinished, unretouched. Why not consider adding PP and not doing quite so many shots? This is a free shoot so YOU get to decide. I would never let my files out of my hands unretouched, free or not. Good luck with it, Tareq!

Tareq - I assume you guys get fashion magazines over there. That can help a lot with the poses. Keep it simple. Take 4-5 shots per pose and then move on to something different, location, pose, dress etc.
