70-200 f/2.8IS mk2 has amazing image stabilization.

Now that I've been incorporating ambient exposure equally as much as bounced flash photography I am pushing the limits of shutter speed.

f/2.8 is simply too slow for my taste but I'm testing how well the IS handles in slow shutter speed.

My daughter decided to stack a bunch of coins on the carpet.

This photo was taken (many others landed as well ) with my 1d3, 200mm, ISO 1250, f/2.8, 1/15 HAND HELD with aprox 4 cups of Americano coffees

I would have used higher ISO's but to be frank the 1d3 isn't much of a performer in high ISO. ISO 1600 the Raw file is recoverable but the image starts to fall apart even with minimal pixel peeping.

minor quick PP. The fact that this is 1/15 SS handheld at 200mm is amazing.

Wow, impressive shot. After a little espresso I am still pretty shaky even with the IS on my 70-200 MkII.

Mode 1 for handheld. Mode 2 is for panning.

For my style IS is a need to have for a longer lens. So far I am happy with my new tool in my gear bag.

Thats what I would have expected too but she was meticulous in trying to stack the coins. If the stack tumbled she would freak 'cause my 4 year old is a perfectionist.

IS systems really work well when they are given a bit of time to settle. EG first pressure....wirrr...wi​rrr.wirrr...click. The problem is when rapid shooting is required during a longer shutter speed. Personally. I'd always choose a brighter lens (with a subsequent faster shutter speed) over an IS system. IS is great for nearly stationary subjects, where as faster shutter speeds due to brighter lenses is great for moving targets.
Having said all that, it's an impressive piece of kit that Canon have put together for us! I'm seriously considering one myself to replace my 70-200/f4 IS L, 200 f2.8 II L and 300 f4 IS L. I can sell all three and make a small profit in the exchange It'll reduce my landscape bag considerably!

too bad the lens has terrible vignetting though. all kidding aside, excellent shot. i've gotten 1/4 second shots hand held before but those were at 18mm

I've found that the average viewer doesn't notice / care about vignetting, and also that Lightroom's compensation works pretty well.
