5D II Help Please

I have a newer 5D2. Just returned from using it and removed lens to find plastic piece floating free in camera body. Camera was not dropped or noticably bumped. Was using live view and mirror lock up.

Questions. What is the piece? Living on an island in Alaska is it something you would attempt to replace or do I send it in.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Camera less than a year old.

That's your focus screen. It is user removable, so you should just be able to put it back in. However, if you touched it or if it was banging around in there, it may have been scratched.

Yeah, make sure you grab it from the side tab with a tweezer and put it back in.

This might help getting it back in, just follow the instructions from p.12 - p.14

Note: the focusing screen tab is on the right (looking into the camera), this will then seat easily into the cradle.

You might also need to give the screen a blow with the blower on both sides before you put it back in.

Thank you all for prompt and good help. I was able to put it back in and will test it in a day or so. I was shocked at how easily that 'compartment' opens and closes. I hope the issue does not come back.
