I made my 2nd attempt at HS football yesterday. I used the Sigma 100-300 f4 - it was a 4pm start, so darkness wasn't a factor. I wasn't as impressed by the 100-300, it seemed to backfocus a lot.
Anyway, here are a few of the shots from the game - C & C are appreciated.
Thanks

Some good shots. Tour lucky to get a 4:30 start. Ours start at 7:30 so I have about an hour of good light. It does help with the new 70-200 2.8 IS. They look good. A few may be a little too close to get a feel for what is really happening. Someone needs to cut the grass. Give me your tips on shooting HS football. I have only done 3 games.

Thanks for the comments. The field was one of the worst I've ever seen; ruts everywhere and obviously the grass was in need of a cutting - hard to believe it was a HS stadium.

Hi Chris...

I absolutely LOVE the way you did your web page. It looks VERY professional as does your work my friend. Did you do that with FrontPage?

Awesome!

Dave

Thanks Dave, the site was done with Adobe Illustrtor and Dreamweaver - with some old fashioned HTML coding thrown in.
I also use a program called EOSTemplate for the shopping cart area - great program that's easy to use.

Haha i love the action captured in that last photo, what was happening? I Cant quiet figure out if it was a tackle, or a block, or what.

Sorry for not captioning that one - it was the 2 defenders in red breaking up a pass to the reciever.

Hey Oloughlinc. You have some very good pictures here. The exposures seem to be very good, and I would rather look at an image that trades blown-out highlights for a good view of the face underneath the helmet.

The first image is a great action shot. I like how you managed to frame both the offensive and defensive players facing each other down. The second image has more of an artistic quality to it, but I like how you arranged the shot so you can see the numbers on the jerseys.

I don't know what to think of the third image. It tells a good story, but I almost think that there is too much going on. The players celebrating in the background are slightly out of focus and I find that very distracting. The fourth image freezes the action very well. I like how you can see the drops of water suspended in mid-air as the defenders break up the play. What I don't like about the image is that you can't see the ball anywhere. It looks to be behind #1, who's back is to the camera. I think the image would be much better if you were on the other side of the play, where you could see the ball being batted down while the other two players make contact.

Thanks for the comments smassey; I wish I had been on the other side of the field for the 4th shot too, it would have beeen a much better shot.
As an interesting sidenote for you, #1's name is Shane Massey...
By the way, I lived in Fond Du Lac until I was 8 - have relatives that still live in the area.

Great photos Chris! I love the moment captured in #1. Also, I thought the numbering of the WR/DB was cool in #2. That 2nd photo almost looks like they posed just for your lens! Great job!

That's interesting that you used to live in Fond du Lac. Where are you at now?

I'm in a suburb of Detroit - by way of Arlington, VA, which were my stomping grounds.

My grandfather O'Loughlin and his sons - including my dad - dug a lot of the water wells in Fond Du Lac.

Thanks louStoll, I loved the #1 & #2 setup also - just one of those lucky moments, and I was on the recieving end.
