I'm hoping others have run into the same with other DSLR's. I'm also hoping some folks can shed some light on their repair bills and what was fixed....just to give me an idea.

I have a 30D, as stated. In the past two outings to shoot at the drag strip, I have found that after I autofocus on my subject........when I press the shutter button, nothing happens. The camera is in full manual, on servo mode. Fwiw I am using my 100-400L lens, which is also setup correctly (long AF mode, IS on, and using both 1 and 2 axis IS modes. I even through the camera into Av mode last weekend, to no avail. I thought it was the cold weather, but it ended up being 65 degrees yesterday, when the problems kept happening. Also, alot of the times the camera just would not AF. At the track, I use the center point for AF.

In addition to that problem, I have a TON of dust bunnies in the viewfinder. I am certain my shutter is on its deathbed......I can't wait to see how many actuations I have on this thing. I am for sure sending it in for repairs.....and I have already budgeted to purchase another body.....which I am shopping for right now. Now I am just wondering what I might be looking at repair wise, if anyone can relate. I am seeing a lot of $200-300 repairs.....

Thanks!

Darren

There seem to be quite a few 30D users who have an issue with the shutter button mechanism. There are a few threads on the forum, including one which describes a cleaning process with alcohol. Dust gets inside, or the "plunger" goes... But when you press the shutter, nothing happens. Mine is in the early stages of this disease.

I went to Canon in Irvine, and they told me that it would be roughly $200 to fix. They also told me about the loyalty program, which is what I will probably do eventually.
