The Hershey Chocolate Factory has been in production for over 100 years. Two huge smokestacks at the east end of the plant are iconic symbols of the company. The factory will be closing down in the next year or two. I don't expect the stacks to be demolished, but I have wanted to get some captures before it closes. Was out and about today with the camera and had some time to spare so I snapped these. Looking for C&C and some tips on what to do next time to improve. There is an angle, from the east, that I think is preferable (no shadows), but I was much too late to capitalize on that today. Not easy shots to get without trespassing.

I prefer #4 I think, as the various junk in the other pics is gone and the detail is better, but I don't like losing the scale of these monster stacks. I know some of the extraneous stuff can be edited out, but I don't have that PP skill set.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

I agree that #4 is your best. Five would be good if it wasn't for those #%@^% power lines! I hate those things. Such a shame that Hershey is closing the plant in the city named for it. Bastards.

The power poles and line kill those images IMO. I know...there's no avoiding them unless you do a lot of PhotoShop processing :(

The one without the utilities wires strung up between the two towers is the best. The one with the utility pole is an interesting juxtaposition, but the scaling effect diminishes the size of the smokestacks.

Just to be clear, Hershey has two other plants in Hershey PA. One of them will be basically doubling in size to absorb most of the production from the 100 yr old plant. Jobs will be lost though, as production becomes more efficient (and competitive).

Thanks for the comments. One thing that becomes more clear to me in looking at these and thinking about how to improve is that I'd be better off with a long lens and a TC shooting from a nice vantage point a bit further away. My approach was to try and get as close as possible, which is making all the interference more prevalent. Never tried land or city scape before, so the approach is very foreign to me at this point.

I really wanted to get right under the darn things and shoot almost straight up, but could only to get to this point before the barbed wire stopped me. Bad angle anyway.

The clean zoomed in view of the towers tells the story for me nice and simply without the need for me longing to see any other buildings.
