The edit by chucking fluff looks pretty good as he's managed to bring detail out in the foreground that the original didn't have.

Here are two of my attempts to make HDR from the supplied 3 bracketed shots:

My first attempt is more conservative, whereas the second one is much more dramatic though less realistic. Software used: Photomatix Pro and Photoshop. IMO the sky needs to be brought out as much as possible, which Chucking Fluff's version does not achieve to this extreme extent.

Canon EOS Rebel XS | Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC | Tair 11a (135mm f/2.8, M42, manual) | Cheapo aluminum tripod from dealextreme.

This is what I like about HDR it's subjective and not to everyones liking. I like the detail you managed to bring out of the buildings on the second one but the sky looks really unnatural and really over baked in both of these.It's almost like someone was dropping napalm on the horizon. The haloing is even worse on these ones but that's just a minor detail. I'd like to see what someone with some real HDR skills could do with these. Who's the local HDR expert around here?

I prefer the HDR shot as it makes the areas in the sun look much better.
