Another image from my recent trip into Yellowstone. This was on Saturday 11/06, gates closed to regular vehicle traffic on 11/08.

This was at Firehole Basin.

Jimmy:

Probably couple feet of snow there by now. I live about 3 hours south of this location, we got 4 inches of snow night before last.

Wow... we had heard (went there for 3 weeks on a field study course) that they get almost silly amounts of snow. I have the option of going back for the winter course, but -40 scared me right out of that :) Iowa gets cold and snow, but not as sustained lows as they get. In any occasion, nice shot.

Actually the cold is more bearable here than in Iowa. When the temps drop the moisture is squeezed out of the air and becomes very dry. With the temps that cold the wind is usually calm also. We sometimes have to be careful to keep the warm clothes nearby because it feels warmer on a sunny day than it really is. Still, -40° is pretty chilly. It isn't always that cold though. Sometimes it warms all the way up to 0°F.

Nice capture! It looks a little soft on my monitor. I think I would try to tone down the background a little. Thanks for sharing.
