I really liked Photocart also. I need a few more months of making some side money and I will get a site put together. I am saving for my canon 5D M II.

Can you add the option for the customer to select matting and framing for the selected image they wish to purchase?

If so, this may just be what I'm looking for.

If you are concerned with space, consider dreamhost - unlimited space and bandwidth, 9 dollars a month.

There is no such thing as unlimited space and bandwidth.

And, if you are worried about surpassing the limits of a hosting services advertised unlimited bandwidth, then you should be running SAP or some other enterprise server software and obviously this discussion isn't meant for you as you would have an IT department, a product making you millions, and you would have your own mirror on Akamai.

Huh???? SAP is not server software. It's for business analytics (among other things). And using a CDN isn't just limited to big websites and frankly is neither here nor there. Actually most self-hosted photo website would probably be well advised to take advantage of something like Cloudfront.

And it does not take much to get booted off of an "unlimited" host - especially if you're running anything that uses a lot of SQL, disk-space or bandwidth (hello wordpress photoblogs). The bottom line is that there is no such thing as unlimited hosting and you absolutely do not have to be running some huge website to run into the limits on an "unlimited" host.

Dreamhost is a typical overseller. Go look on webhostingtalk for some stories. The problem with most shared hosting is that you're going to be on a server with hundreds (or even thousands) of other websites. You can easily find your IP address blacklisted, CPU cycles used up, site speed slowed to a crawl etc.

For example, an "unlimited" host will set up a 10mb/s line into the server and let everybody have at it. On a traditional metered plan, they'll run a 100mb/s, which lets everybody have full access to the bandwidth they're paying for. Speed matters as it now factors into search engine rankings.

Personally, I would much rather go with a host that limits the number of accounts on each box and clearly defines the disk-space and bandwidth limits for each account. I'm using mddhosting.com for my website and namecheap for domain registration. MDD has been pretty good so far - lightyears better than my old "unlimited" host, bluehost.

OK, I took the plunge and bought PhotoCart - gotta say there's some nice features in there that really seem nice to have! Though think I might miss my deadline to get the site up, gotta say it's pretty good so far.
