A few shots I took today of the neighbours dog,
with a Tamron 17-35 f2.8 mounted on a 500D.
They can be found on my Flickr (external link)

Here is one of them,

I'm not a fan of the over-exposed sky. More light around the eyes would have helped, but heck I never carry a reflector around, don't expect you to, and I don't like using my flash on animals either. Could hope to get him facing into the sun though (guessing he wasn't).

The nose/muzzle/whatever-I'm-a-cat-person is underexposed - leaving a featureless black that doesn't covey the curvature... so it's almost like seeing a little night-time image of the most-recently-discovered galaxy floating in the night sky, superimposed there, and I can only think (and hope) that's more MIB-themed than intended.

Cheers,
Tony

The contrast is super heavy on his face, the saturation is a tad too much. But I like the composition.

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.

Tonydee, how does one correctly expose a colour which reflects no light?

Nothing's totally black... just have to do the best you can to get some detail in, capturing some hint of curvature and detail around the eyes.....

The right exposure, coupled with RAW makes it a lot easier.

The contrast in these is really high. Have you calibrated your monitor & PP software?
