Yeah, I had to sell my lenses, but fortunately the Nikon lenses perform very well in terms of sharpness, focus accuracy, and flare resistance. They're expensive though.

Agreed. They're around the same price as new updated Canon lenses.

I suck at Photoshop.

True, I paid more for my 70-200 2.8L IS II than I did for my 70-200 2.8 VRII. Both from the same shop.

NOBODY could argue with some who might be Ken Rockwell! :p

^^ YES!

The 5DIII will have ONE AF point!

But it will probably be cross type, so that solves most problems.

I will actually be upset if they increase the # of megapixels in a replacement. The size of RAW files is cumbersome enough. There is no need for more megapixels when you can work on other useful aspects of the sensor. The megapixel war is over. I hope Canon figures this out.

They will probably do it though. It's not a G camera. ;)

I agree...but an extra processor and a second card would be welcome.
As stealthy says...who needs a zillion focus points when when very large one would do???
We're due for better noise control and other improvements, not new features. But please, PLEASE give us a lock on the top left control dial!

For that matter, who needs a viewfinder when we have live-view.

I predict it won't have a viewfinder.

Comparing at B&H the Nikon lenses are slightly more, though they're comparable. For example the Canon 24-70 is $1280 imported, the Nikon $1679 imported. The 70-200 comes out $100 more. The Canon 16-35 costs more as it's F2.8 and the Nikon is F4, but I got it for the VR.

I think they felt more expensive as I upgraded from Canon v1 and prosumer gear to pro gear. Upgrading to 1 series bodies and L lenses would've been a comparable price, maybe a bit more as 1 series bodies are quite expensive, and the D700 is a bargin.

The nikon's 24-70 is a a newer variant, if canon updated, it'd be the same price. It's all give and take though. D700's are amazing cameras.

Yeah. I love Nikon's cameras, and they make awesome lenses, but Canon make lenses just as good. Sure there's no 200-400 or 14-24, but Nikon have a few holes in their line-up too.
So to have to sell all my Canon gear, pay the same or more for Nikon lenses, and pay MORE for a D3s (great camera, but so is the Mk IV).. errm no thanks.
I'll just sit and complain on the sidelines and hope Canon take notice :p

The most important part is finding a system you feel really happy and comfortable with. I'm just glad we have choices.
