Quick! Somebody snatched that up! Its a leaked version just like the iPhone 4! Some engineer must've dropped it at a bar some where and somebody picked it up.

Some digital rev speculation (external link).....

Why you won't see the Canon EOS 5D Mark III anytime soon
by Raphael Chieza

In the last few years, we have seen the increasing use of rumours by the big players as part their viral marketing campaign to gather feedback as well as pre-launching their new products. This has in fact led to us receiving a substantial amount of news about potential new releases. The problem often is in the sorting the real from the fiction and more importantly into classifying whether it's really a release spec or a potential spec for feedback. That's why we can say that based on what we've been receiving lately that you can perish the thought of a Canon 5D Mark III announcement anytime soon.

Reason #1 – Lack of Push from Competitions

Let's face it, regardless of the shortcomings of the Canon 5D Mark II, its high resolution and solid image quality makes it a satisfactory choice for any pro. It doesn't scream on the ISO handling but then you need to go with the Nikon D3S to be better on that count. The Nikon D700 with its gelded ISO performance is just not enough to make anyone jump systems. Throw in the fact that the D3S is only 12 megapixels also reinforces the acceptance of the 5D Mark II. Will Nikon come up with better? Yes but not likely until around March 2011. By then, Canon may or may not have something ready but we are thinking that it will have to be mid 2011 at the earliest before we see the 5D Mark II being replaced.

Reason #2 – Solid Sales

Being competitive on specs allows it to perform well on the marketplace and it's clear that the 5D Mark II sales are still very positive. It's hard to picture Canon killing off their hot selling full frame model so soon especially when they would probably need to put in more work on their AF system to deliver a responsive in-movie AF to complement their excellent movie mode. However, it's most likely some form of improved version of the Canon 7D's new AF system so don't expect to see 51-point AF anytime soon either…

Reason #3 – More pressing replacements

DigitalRev DSLR Promotion, DSLR Cameras, Discounts & Value PacksFinally, and perhaps most important, is the fact that Canon has other models that are more pressed for a replacement. While the Canon EOS 1000D doesn't seem to promise any successors, there is definitely space below the 550D spec-wise for a simpler, cheaper entry level camera. They will probably need the in-movie AF for this model as well just to keep the first timers comfortable with DSLRs movie making. Another model that is long due for some news is of course the 1Ds Mark III. The question only remains if more megapixels would be the major selling point for this camera or will it lean more towards other optimisations in the upgrade.

Release Timetable

March 2011 is pretty much the earliest we will see any new DSLRs from Canon. The 5D Mark III will likely to follow the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III's successor and possible even after a low priced Canon EOS 2000D. What is more likely, we can't tell but unless the Nikon camp has something to announce, it's not likely Canon will make the first move in the few months ahead. The real acid test would be the CES 2011 in early January and then PMA 2011 in the latter half of February. If I was a gambling man, I would say an announcement just before PMA from either Canon or Nikon and thereby triggering announcements from the other. 2010 is as good as over but at least 2011 should promise us a lot of excitement for new models.

When it does come out I imagine it will be much like a 7D - but FF, 25MP, and without the pop-up flash.

^That's a pretty safe assumption - I think it'll be a high MP, FF 7D as well.

The 7d af is similar to the 1 series, except lower spec'd. Putting that AF into the 5D would really cut into their 1D sales, so I doubt they'll do it.
