Bill, I just love the second image. What a great pose and super job on the exposure. Well done.

Shooting with more great Canon gear than I deserve.
I don't need a second childhood. I'm not finished yet with the first one.

Thank you, Judy. I didn't know if the crowd here is old enough to recognize the Dylan reference in the main title.

Thank you, Harvey. Maybe I won't toss my gear into the Grand Canyon quite yet. ;)

Exposure with large white birds is definitely a challenge. I tried spot metering and the results varied wildly depending on exactly where the spot was placed. With the exposure system trying to make the egret neutral gray, the rest of the scene was really dark. I used what appeared to be the best image from the scene here, but even then I had to bump up the exposure in post processing and add quite a bit of fill light. I really hate to do that with a high ISO shot because "you know what" happens to the noise. I believe that this one was at ISO 400 which is not too difficult to handle. I had some others at ISO 800 and when they are properly exposed, noise is not a problem, but when underexposed, they are really not very good.
