I finally got in touch with someone higher up at apple that called me and assured me they will get it working or replace it.

I did bring in the computer and apple is testing it to see what is wrong. They did promise to get me a working machine one way or the other. We'll see what happens.

I hope you get your problems sorted out and I do know that my experiences with apple have been nothing but stellar. I had a three year old mbp out of warranty and no apple care. They claimed the logic board fried and they couldn't fix it after a replacement. They did tests and later on gave me a brand new mbp unibody. Best of luck.

Sounds funny but I wrote to Steve Jobs, and the next day someone called me and have since called me everyday to let me know whats going on. They are testing the machine now. In the past my experience was always nothing but good with apple so I was shocked at how this was going but I feel much better about the situation now and I am glad they are giving the customer service I expected and always got in the past.

There's always bad 'apple's', regardless of the company. Happy you got past whichever one that was giving you the runaround.

I did have the Towson md store actually lose my MBP that was being serviced under warranty. Took them three days to find it.

On macrumors.com, there was a story posted on how a developer for the ipad, got denied from the apple store for publishing the app. He wrote steve jobs a respectful letter pretty much asking what he did wrong, etc etc. Steve jobs CALLED him, and worked it out.

If your PCs seldom, if ever, crash then I'm pretty sure you are not working them very hard. I used to be a big PC fan and one of the things I liked about them was that they didn't crash nearly as often as the Macs in the shop. Of course that didn't take into account the fact that I was using my PC for business applications such as spread sheets and word processing and the Macs were being used primarily for complex graphic work. When I started trying to do serious graphic and photo work on a PC I found it crashed significantly more often than the Macs we were using.

This was 20 years ago and nothing has significantly changed since. I'm in contact with people at hundreds of newspapers around the country and I have never encountered a graphic artist, designer or photo editor who would prefer a PC to an Apple if given a choice. I do know several who work with PCs but only because someone who didn't have to work with the computer decided everyone had to use a PC. Probably because they didn't want to support two platforms or because of cost issues. In short, business decisions which were given a higher priority than the users' preferences. Sometimes that's necessary but it's definitely not ideal.

If all I had to do on a computer was straight up business applications for budgeting and word processing for memos, documentation and proposals I would still be happy with my old PC but not if I have to do anything in the graphics world.

Absolutely not true IMHO.
I have a:
Alienware Aurora ALX,
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
Intel Core i7 980 Extreme 6Core (3.33GHz, 12MB Cache),

CPU liquid cooling
24GB Triple Channel 1333MHz DDR3,
1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480
2 TB SATA II hard drive in RAID 0
Two additional harddrives each 2TB SATA II hard drives
6X Dual Layer Blu-ray Disc Burner
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium sound card

I run the CS5 Master Collection and several high end 3D design programs and this machine is 100% stable and the performance is the best I have ever experienced in 20 years. This machine has been nothing but an absolute pleasure to use. I do believe Windows 7 is the best PC operating system to date.

Why would you guys want to go through the trouble of installing everything over again? I build my own computers so I can at least keep my hard drive if my monitor has a freaking dead pixel... Like seriously MACs seem like so much work and money...for what?

I use windows 7x64 and have adobe master collection CS5, Autodesk Maya, MatchMover, MotionBuilder and Composite 2011, I frequently use the Unreal Tournament 3 Editor and the latest Unreal Development Kit to make high end 3d games/mods, I have had no problems with the computer I build.

What are you talking about? The OP was having trouble with Apple's support. There is obviously something wrong with the hardware - it happens. He has since been taken care of by higher up's at Apple. We simply await the verdict. This thread has nothing to do with PC's btw ;)

And, to answer your question, perhaps you should ask anyone that reinstalls an OS why they would go through the trouble? From what I hear, it's a pretty popular occurrence, regardless of OS. Personally, managing a network with other 10,000 computers, I do it very often.

I think he means like if you buy a new computer or need to get the computer replaced, why would you go through the trouble of reinstalling programs and everything. I remember when I went from my previous MBP to the new one, OS X includes a migration assistant that does the job of transferring things over really well.

Maybe its working in design all these years that I prefer macs but really this is not about pc/mac just was frustrated with how I was treated from Apple in the beginning. Mainly having me do months of tests and re-installing system software then telling me its to late to replace the computer. I should have had them just do this from the start when it seemed to be running slow.

I guess they are still doing hardware tests on my machine to see what the issue is but the person that contacted me from Apple has been on top of this calling me almost daily so I am sure one way or the other this will be resolved.
