Adds 2 years to the warranty and they usually just replace it. Especially since you're willing to get the $4000 system, but not a $100 warranty? That makes a lot of sense. How would Applecare make a difference here? The OPs laptop is only 7 months old Website

If it were only $100 as was stated by the poster you quoted then I would probably be more likely to purchase it, as it stands now, I generally keep a MBP for about 1 - 1 1/2 of a year before selling mine and purchasing a new one. Doesn't sound like a very good investment for some people. My village called. I was told that they missed me.

Considering the vast repair resources and inexpensive parts available on the web, Apple Care doesnt add up on most of their devices...at least for me since im fairly mechanically inclined and like DIY projects. Nov 23, 2010 13:52 | #81 I do have apple care. Apple has the computer now and is testing it. Getting in touch with someone higher up ( not the basic apple tech when you call ) has been helpful since they actually call me to give me updates but so far no hardware problems so they sent it to do more in depth testing. We'll see, I am sure they will take care of the issue. Website

Though I will admit, other than a hard drive upgrade, I've never had to repair anything on any of my Mac's. ![]() Up until you have a bad logic board. 80% of a laptops hardware is part of the logic board... That's why the dont just call them motherboards. They're so much more than that. Also, 1 in 3 laptops fail within the fist year. They run so hot and get abused it's a good investment to get warrantys on laptops. But, not so much with desktops, where as you say, repairing them isn't so hard your self.

All the PC laptops I see do get smoking hot though, so ill agree with you there. Nobody cares about your gear list...

Nov 24, 2010 12:34 | #90 Either way I think this is the last time I purchase an expensive laptop. My last ( 17 inch macbook pro ) failed after about 3 years of heavy use. This one did get very hot, felt like a toaster over, if I am allowed a new one I am almost thinking I should try to get one that is a little less power packed. Maybe an I5, I wonder if there is only so much a laptop can handle. I have an older core duo at work and while not super fast it does seem to work well and its about 3 or 4 years old. Website
