Is shutter speed relevant on 7D with video?
Do I need to set the shutter speed at all when switching to video or does it not matter?

Yes, shutter speed is important with any video camera. The general rule is your shutter speed should be double the framerate you're shooting at. e.g If you're shooting at 24fps your shutter speed should be 1/50th, if 30fps then 1/60th.

Slower shutter speed = more motion blur, faster shutter speed = 'sharper' motion.

Thank you, I always forget about the "similar threads" feature on this forum. I will have a look.

I'm in the same boat as ni$mo350. I would have never thought about shutter speed. I guess it is just one of many considerations when using a DSLR instead of a Vid Camera.....

shutter speed, aperture, ISO can all play an important part.

lens choice, you don't want to use a zoom where the aperture changes as you zoom in/out.

Go on YouTube and search for " 7D Video Setup "

Also look for " 7D video lens selection "

When I first shot video with my 7D, I was not happy. After going through a couple of the setup videos I became very happy with the results.

For my 7D I have all the video settings saved to C3 so if I ever want to shoot video, I just put it on C3 and know it is setup.
