Need Help Removing Background

Hi everyone,
Can you please help me? What is the best way to remove the gray background so that it is completely white. I had only one flash and as a consequence some of the background is gray. I have Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3. Thanks for your advice!

Correction: *All* of the background is gray.

Use a levels or curves adjustment layer, and mask it.

Thanks guys! Here's what I came up with little tinkering in Photoshop. Just noticed I can still see a little gray in the background on the right.

Not perfect. Still needs refining of the mask but all I had time for. I also think the refine edge tool in CS5 works better using a higher res photo.
Although I did not use this technique here this is another way to go at it.

I think you need to calibrate your screen, as it's way too bright.
I see very distinct bits of gray, and I can see where you brushed.

Why not try a Chromakey (green screen) program. They're easy to use and produce great results.

1Dx - 5DIII - 40D - Canon 24-70LII, 100L macro, 135L, 16-35L, 70-200 f4 and 100-400L lenses

- "Very good" is the enemy of "great." Sometimes we confuse the two.

I have had similar problems in the past. Selecting hair can be particularly difficult in real life photos. I think in this case I would forget about trying to mask the hair, because it has blended in to the grey background. I would try the dodge tool for this one.

I had a quick stab at your photo

Levels adjustment (set white point)
Dodge Tool (targeting mainly highlights), then dodge out the grey backgeound, set a low exposure near the hair and use multiple brush strokes).
