Trying my hand at portrait photography while doing a couple of sessions with Jennifer recently. Tell me what you think.

#1 Looks slightly underexposed and her eyes are too dark, IMO.
#2 is OOF (out of focus) and the crop looks odd.
#3 The image looks flat (the model is blending in with the rest of the image) maybe due to lack of contrast. Plus I'm not a big fan of B&W ;)
The bench is not level and her fingers have been chopped off.

The images you're posting are kinda small, IMO. Make them 1024 x XXXX and just under 150KB

With more practice, you should be able to correct these issue's quickly.
Keep shooting and posting and don't take this CC the wrong way.
I am trying to help you

Here's an image at 1024 x XXXX and under 150KB It's much easier to give CC on a larger image, IMO.

#1 is a secondary edit. I will post a larger version of the original which you may find more to your liking.

#2: I'm not sure where it looks out of focus to you, but I will post a larger version.

#3: I will post a color version with a corrected horizon.

I'll post larger versions of all three images to give a better look at them.

Great
#2 looks OOF, especially at the eye area to me. Looks like it might have focused on the tip of her nose.

The Exif data isn't available. Are these shot with the XTi ? That could be why they look OOF or soft.

I'll have to check the raw of #2 and confirm the focus point. These were all shot with the 5D with the 70-300 IIRC. They were likely shot wide open. I will include the exif data with the revised images.

focus point was on her left eye, but I was shooting hand held so there's a chance there was movement on my part. f/10 1/50 sec 110mm ISO 2000

Are you shooting auto mode with auto ISO ?

With a shutter speed of 1/10 and 1/50, I can see why the images would be OOF or soft. It's most likely from camera movement. I don't know what the aperture spec is on your lenses, but if you're shooting wide open, that will contribute to an OOF/soft image.
#1 looks much better and the WB looks more normal too.
#2 The focus looks much better with this image, compared to the first one posted.
#3 is much better in color and all look better using a bigger image for viewing. The BG is a little to bright, IMO. That's most likely why it looks flat in B&W.
