Good or Bad choice ... d60 to 7D

Because of the mixed reviews on the 60d I'm planning on exchanging mine for the 7D. I'm still good on my return days with B&H. I'm still pretty much learning but I dont want to get left behind after the photography courses I have lined up (I dont want to regret it and want to upgrade later). Good Choice?

Also I ordered 2 lenses with the 60d...Are those good lenses to stay with?

What do you want the 60D to do that's causing you 2nd thoughts based on the internet?

I think if you search this board, the people that own one have been very happy with it. The 7D is a great camera, but again, what do you want it to do that you think the 60D can't?

I've heard good things about the Sigma 17-50 and the 55-250 seems to be the best of the budget zooms out there.

Other than "the internet says" I'm not sure what your reason is for getting rid of the 60D. Is there some area that you have found it lacking or not meeting your needs? Don't base your purchases on other's needs! Of course if the main reason is you just WANT the 7D then that is hard to argue......that's how I ended up with mine. If that is the reason and you can afford it then you might as well go ahead, otherwise the gear envy will probably never go away.

So you are thinking about returning you 60D even though you havent even tried it?
Maybe you should try it out before listening to what other people think of it.

The 7D will have a better auto focus and a better build quality. But how important are these, and will you be taking better pictures - you could have not taken without them?

Should be a substantial upgrade. The D60 is ancient by today's standards.

You won't get "left behind" with a 60D at all. You could use it for years and take great pics and video too. The 7D has more advanced features but it's doubtful the 60D would be holding anyone back these days.

I believe the OP meant 60D, not D60. If not then B&H has the longest return policy in the world if it was purchased new!

This forum has a bad habit of making people change their mind...!!!

I only had my 60D for two weeks and exchanged it for a 7D. The 7D went on sale $250 CAN off so the difference was do-able. I like the 7D much better, but there was nothing wrong with the 60D. I had a Tameron 18-270mm that worked great on my T1i, but seemed soft on the 60D and it seemed the pics looked amazing on the LCD but not that impressive once downloaded and/or printed. I also like shooting sports and motorcycle racing, so I thought the 7D would be worth the extra coin. But unless there are specific features on the 7D you require, I'd sink the cash into glass. I now have a 24-105mm so I'll be saving for more lens after Christmas. The middle of the road stuff dosen't seem to cut it with the 7D or 60D as far as glass goes, IMO you'll need the good stuff with either to get the results you're likely looking for.

I'm in the WTF camp.

What does the 60D not do that the 7D does? What do you shoot that requires a significantly more complicated focus system, machine-gun burst mode, and a harder-to-reach joystick in portrait mode (with a grip attached). The 60D is a fantastic camera, and after handling one I'm wishing some aspects of my 7D were more like it.

Tell us about your needs, and we'll give you a fair opinion. =)

My thinking is this...if you don't know anything about those lenses, chances are you don't have a lot of digital photography experience in the first place. The 60D will probably do more than you will have time to learn.

My suggestion is to take it and shoot the heck out of it. If after ten thousand shots, you are still dissatisfied, sell it and get something else.

Buyers remorse is a terrible thing, because once you wait too long the remorse cannot be cured without substantial penalty. Once on a lens purchase I was one day late on the return and that delay caused the 'restocking fee' to kick in. I've handled both the 60D and the 7D, I prefer the feel of the 7D. Yet others for some reason want to say the 7D is too big, so they order the 50D or 60D and put a grip on it. I think that is funny.

In all honesty, if you think you may regret the 60D purchase make the exchange for the 7D. I can tell you the AF on the 7D is amazing. As far as lens choice the 55-250 gets great reviews. I cannot speak to the Sigma as I have a Tamron 17-50 2.8 and it gets great reviews as well. I actually like the Tamron over Canons 17-40 f/4 L.

Keep the 60D and learn to shoot. You gotta learn to walk before you run - in your case, it sounds like you don't even know how to crawl yet. Best thing I can recommend is spend less time on the forums or you're going to go broke real quick.

I'd stick with what you've got. By the time you outgrow your 60D you'll be able to buy an 8D.

i traded my 60D in for the 7D as well. i did it b/c my husband offered to pay the difference (haha) and b/c i am planning on taking lots of sports shots of my son. i was very happy with the 60D, but i think i'm happier with the 7D. i like the layout of the buttons more than anything. i don't know if my pictures are any better but having something feel comfortable in your hands is important too;however, i'm not sure if it's $500+ more important...
