Hello,
I realize there is a sticky for releases but as this is somewhat unique, and your help would be greatly appreciated.

I was asked to provide photography earlier this year for a USTA and Ms. Tennis Association sanctioned tournament. They used the pics for promotional purposes whereas I offered them for sale to players online. I anticipate being asked to cover the event again this upcoming year....

1) I want to create a poster of the event afterward. It most likely will have a club in the background and a random collage of participants in the foreground.

2) In order to drum up additional business, I would like to enter those who make a purchase into a raffle. It may be prizes or a cash value or both. The poster would be available for those who may not have had their picture taken as impossible to get everyone. Otherwise, participants can have their name entered multiple times depending on the amount of purchase...

Will I need a release of any sort for those who may be depicted in the poster? Or is it ok to offer such posters for sale just as individuals pictures are offered for sale?

Lastly, can you offer any advice in regards to the raffle and is it ok to limit it only to those who make purchases? Any other good suggestions?

Thanks, Ralph

People have run into problems on both of those issues in different US states. Cases have gone both ways with regard to selling posters versus selling photographs, and raffles fall under a sea of regulations in some states. See a lawyer.

See a lawyer.

Better yet, see a © lawyer. Here in the USA, the term is "Intellectual Property Lawyer".
