I have been following the always amusing So Whats the Silliest Thing Someone Has Said to About Photography? thread for quite some time.

But yesterday, the mother of one of the kids on my son's swim team complimented me on some shots that I had taken. I mentioned that I thought I needed to take advantage of the one day that I did not have any parent volunteer assignments, to bring my camera. (Swimming parents are usually asked to be timers, or work the concession, or ... at swim meets). Her response: "Any day you want to bring your camera, I'll cover your assignments for you!" Okay, I know that's not much, but it was a lot nicer than "that camera sure takes good pictures."

Let's hear yours!

Mine was a family photo that I spent hours working on cloning, trying to get the micro expressions right, and other PP work. Had it printed in a 16 x 20 size and it's hanging in their living room.

Was paid in tears of gratitude.

I show (and sell) my photos at a few art festivals and one of the most commented on are the waterfalls I display. One such waterfall, 8x10 framed & matted, was being admired by a very nice lady and began telling me about her new home she had just moved into. She decided this waterfall scene just had to go home with her and her husband agreed ...

"This will go perfect over the toilet!"

My daughter made a DVD compilation of my shots of her dance team, added music, and presented it at the year end party in front of around 150 parents and dancers and friends and extended family, with the last frame stating simply "Thanks dad, I love you". The applause was my reward for driving to and setting up in a dozen poorly lit gyms and buying and selling some very expensive primes so I could shoot with available light and plowing through hundreds of difficult but steadily improving images in Photoshop. Even at minimum wage, I probably put in the equivalent of a few thousand bucks worth of labor but it was all pleasure when that last frame was up on the screen and the applause started. Definitely my highlight so far.

I mainly shoot landscapes and cityscapes, and I think the most flattering (and this has happened on here a few times) is when someone tells me that my photos have inspired them to go to a place...

The others are a lot of the times my friends ask for my photos to use as backgrounds for their computers, cellpones, iPods, etc...I am always honoured when someone wants to look at a picture I took all day long haha...

Oh yeah...shot a friend's wedding and now their house is filled with my shots (framed pictures, calendar, computer backgrounds, etc)...makes my day every time I see that :)

I assisted a wedding photographer and he posted his pics on facebook (along with some of mine). One or two of my pics got lots of comments, that made me feel good considering they were mixed in with a "pro"s photos.
