The crane holds the loupe in place so that you can hold it to your eye and manually focus using LV while hand holding the camera. If you have a camera with Magic Lantern running you can use the focus assist and LV histogram to dial in exposure and focus on the fly too. The ergonomics aren't much different than normal, and after a few minutes you don't even notice (other than the focus peaking, which can be more reliable than the precision focusing screen in my 5D2 )I see you mentioned ML. For some reason I was getting quite a bit of flaring that day on most shots, even with the hood. Didnt show up in the viewfinder at all. One of those quirks with IR.
