May 15, 2016 21:35 | #657 I'm new to this IR stuff and recently picked up an older Powershot that was converted, off Ebay. I didn't want to invest much until I knew if I'd like it or not. I have enjoyed playing with it but was wondering how some of you are able to attain more than just 2 colors in your shots. Is it all about the processing or does the conversion make the difference? btweller Member 213 posts Likes: 43 Joined Nov 2011 Location: Hickory Hills, IL More info | The filter you choose for the conversion definitely makes a difference. An 850nm conversion will basically only allow you to shoot monochrome images. A 720nm conversion will give you some capability to do false color processing, but the colors may end up being quite muted. A 665nm conversion gives you a fair deal of latitude for false color processing...this is the filter I went with for my conversion, as you can always add a 720nm, 760nm, or 850nm filter to the front of your lens to get the other effects. There's also a 590nm filter that gives you a LOT of color information, but from what I've seen of the images shot with that filter, the infrared effect gets muted, as the ratio of IR to visible light is much more balanced. If I had to guess as to what conversion your G6 had done, I'd say it looks like a 720nm conversion. And it also allows me to get purple foliage from the same raw file: IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/oQfPuu Hope this helps.
