First what is the best program to preview photos from your library? I use windows photo viewer and i have noticed that photos are a bit darker then they should be and maybe lacking colors in this program (WPV). When I reopen the same photo with quicktime picture viewer and microsoft photo editor, these two programs display them well and identical to each other and very close to my Light Room 3, while windows photo viewer is a bit darker and maybe not fully displaying its colors. is there a fix for this?? I like to use Windows Photo Viewer but this problems really sucks and im forced to use quicktime viewer to display the photos.

I have windows 7 64bit with LR3.

Well, right off the bat, two things: make sure you Export your pics in the sRGB color space -- it's in the LR Export dialog. Then, you will want to look at Color Management and expecially monitor calibration. It won't make all these apps look "identical", although on a good calibrated monitor they can come quite close. If you look at the "Stickies" at the top of this page you will see a couple threads covering Color Problems and Color Management that it would do well to take the time to peruse and try to soak in!

Yes I always use sRGB color space on export from LR and my monitor is calibrated. i think this is something with windows photo wiever but I might be wrong.

In order for windows photo viewer to use color management you need to set it to icc profile color management on the last tab of the color settings in the control panel.

Set device profile to your monitor profile and set viewing conditions profile to WCS profile for ICC viewing conditions

Good info and even then when you hit play slide show it is not color mang in Windows 7 only the Windows photo viewer is right ?
Well that is for wide gamut monitors regarding really noticing the color mang bug in slide show so I am not sure if he has a wide gamut or not.

Correct the slideshow is not color managed and neither is windows itself/or the wallpaper.

Adobe Bridge, LightRoom, or the free software that came with your camera.

Zoombrowser? No...that has to open too. Irfanview? No, that also has to open. Picassa? No...

I can't think of any viewer that doesn't need to open.

I use FastStone Image Viewer.

It's fast, flexible, color-managed and you can have a portable version. (Free.)
