Hello All!

I have a question which is stated in the thread title. Several blogs have been using my images to write articles lately, and I am wondering if it would be appropriate to charge a fee for the usage of my photos. One thing I do not like is that i post my photos on forums and they get taken and used on blogs, and half the time I am not credited for them

Help

Also,
I got an email from a blog telling me
"I assume our writer thought that they were media images to promote the brand, usually the brand gives us editorial use on their contracted pictures work"

I am guessing they assume i contracted with the brand to allow them to send my pictures for editorial use, which is not included in our contract. I do not understand ?

Ask them where they got your image from, because if it was flikr it clearly shows that your images are copyrighted with all rights reserved.
either way from what I have read on here it seems like if someone takes your image that you have taken no matter what the subject that picture is yours and they have stolen it.
Have they hosted the picture them selves or linked from your flikr? you can always replace the photos if they are linked from the blog, that way the link is broken.
also use bigger watermarks...
surley if you are taking pictures for fun and non profit you dont need to contact the brand? Im interested to see what the answers are aswell to your question.

Hey Rachel,

I believe they took the images from the brands website that i did the service for.

have you registered the images? What was your agreement with the client who contracted the shoot? Where the usage rights clear in your contract?
Personally, I would send a note to them and request they pull the images or pay the usage fee. If they are not registered that is pretty much what you can start with. If you have registered the images you may consider talking with your lawyer.
This is a business section and I assume you are in business. Free is not a great product model.
