I'm looking for a range of MF fast prime lenses for video purposes on my 7D. I need a wide angle lens to 80mm, for cheap, however I know like nothing about these older MF lenses.

you can get some pretty fast zuikos for next to nothing on ebay. for example a 50mm f1.4 for around $80. i have quite a collection of zuikos. with a $15 OM to EF adapter you're set to go. Or for $30 you can get a chipped adapter which give you the focus confirmation beep.

Depends on what you mean by "fast."

50s are easy and pretty cheap - readily available in the $40-$150 region, depending. Olympus, Pentax Takumars (M42 screwmount), Zeiss (1.7/50 - the f/1.4 will run a little higher, $200+).

Wide is a little more expensive, if you want the speed. Not that many options faster than f/2.8 and less than a couple hundred. Look at Olympus, Nikon (AI/AIS).

edited to add - here's some links from a previous post -

These are all easy enough to convert. You will likely be able to find these for less than the KEH prices, but KEH has a return policy and they're strict with their condition ratings.

I've been using the Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f/2 (native Canon EF mount) for video, and it's awesome. The focus ring is well-damped, and the small size makes it easy to use for video. I shot a whole low-light wedding reception with it, and the couple couldn't believe how good the videos came out.

Old Nikkors are very good as well. I have the 85 1.8 that I use for video that works beautifully.

wider is harder, especially with the 7D.
I would suggest getting the 11-16 or the 12-24 or the samyang 14 2.8 for really wide stuff.

a 24 or 28 OM

definitely a 50 1.4
and an 85 1.8 or 1.4 (depending on budget)

Perhaps a 100 or 105 and a 35. depending on what you want

What are you shooting and what is your price range (whats cheap to you)? For $25, I think everyone should have a copy of a helios.

I'll be shooting short films indoors where light isnt always available therefore I need fast lenses preferable 1.8F or lower. I already have a 50mm 1.8F so now I just need a wide angle & 85mm.

Most people think that they can just shoot available light with DSLRs, which is possible sometime and people have gotten good results, but, generally, a light kit is VERY important.

Samyang 85mm is the best affordable 85mm prime. And its f/1.4 so its good in low light. If money is no option, go for Zeiss.

Yeah, and on a 7d I would keep your focal length below 80 if you don't have IS and will be handholding. Otherwise you get micro-jitters.

+1

You may want to look into a shouldermount rig
