I have a $400 to $500 budget for a lens. I will soon be selling my Rebel XS and buying a 7D and would like to use the lens with it. Which all-around lens should I buy? Please help! I will also be using my nifty-fifty with it as well.

What is your price range?

Tamron 17-50 VS or NON or Sigma 17-50 OS if you have more money. If money no option the CAnon 17-55!

I would get a standard zoom with f2.8. Something like a Tamron 17-50 VC, if you can stretch your budget $25-$50 more. Lots of bang for buck with that lens.

Thanks guys! I think I am going to get the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 VC version. After looking at user-posted pictures, I am sold. I will be ordering it next week so if any of you have a different opinion, please do let me know. :)

Why spend $1400 on a body and only $500 on a lens?

my thought:
get 15-85 instead.. used go a little over 500.. but you'll be amazed by the IQ..
you already have nifty for fast prime..
or 17-40 if you are lucky.. if im not mistaken i saw it running around for 550ish used..
Thats my personal take

:)

The Tamron 17-50 non-VC is excellent for only $414 after rebate right now.

^^You have to be quick! A very good deal in the marketplace won't last more than 10 minutes before being sold ;)

This week I bought a 100-300 f5.6L to replace my non-L 100-300 f5.6. What a superb lens for between $200 - $400 on ebay.

You are referring to the non "L" version for that price, right...?

No. If you read my post it says I replaced a non-L lens with an L lens.
