Got these 2 pics of my wife, unexpectingly. Was driving passed a lake, pulled over and snapped these. Didn't have a flash or any reflectors with us, as you can see with her squinting in the bright midday sun. However did have the trusty 40D and 70-200 with us. All C&C welcome, thank to everyone in advance...............

Besides the problems that you already pointed out in the first shot all of those gates/fences are really distracting. Was there not a better spot to take a picture? The second one is slightly better but theres green leaves growning out the top of her head. In the bright sun try and find some shade at the edge of some trees for your subject to stand, avoid real bright areas.

The framing works really well in those shots.
