Frankly, the 28-135 is a very capable lens. I use one as a backup for my 24-70 and it's nearly equal in image quality. .

that's weird. All the lens sites show the 18-55IS kit lens significantly better in image quality and resolution compared to the 28-135 and the f2.8 zooms like Canon, Tamron, sigma, etc. are even sharper! (for crop models)
Not a believer? - look for yourself - compare the Canon 55-250IS and the Canon 28-135 - big difference !!!!!!!
