Help me

You will realise I am new to this. I saw a demo of a Canon camera on QVC which showed a black and white shot with one colour (a shot of lots of electrical its with them all in black and white except red ones. Do all Canons do that?

The guy doing the demo said it can be achieved using other software? Photoshop.

I thought it was neat!

Any idea whi it is called and how to do it?

Thanks

I gather you are talking about a B&W photo with some are highlighted in colour?

If that's what you mean it's a pretty simple process but can be time consuming if you do it properly.

Basically take a copy of an image and change it to a B&W image. The copy and paste that image back over th etop of the original as a layer. The erase the are of the B&W image and then the colour of the original will come to the surface.

Here is how I do it.

I bring up the image I would like to work on in photoshop.
Press Ctl J to make a copy. Now I have two layers.
Change the second layer to black and white.
Then I take my eraser and aply it to the area that I would
to be in color and then I flatten the image and away I go.

I just did this one real quick. I hope it helps.

Darn it!
Sorry I forgot a step.
You have to make the B&W image with Saturation Bar.
Go to Adjustments
Go to Hue & Saturation
Bring Saturation togle all the way to the left.
It will make the image B & W.

Thanks to all - the wedding example is excellent - just what I was thinking off.

The camera on the tv programme (powershop I think) apparantly could do that without the use of external software but maybe I got that wrong.

Would love to see others examples

Thanks again

Ian

No Canon camera that I know could do that by itself.

The new Sony HDV Camcorders can do this right in the camera, not that this helps you at all ;)

The other way to do this is the de-saturate your image and use the history brush to paint back the colour.

Hey Ian I will work on another one for you. In the next day or so. This time I will use an object and not a wedding.

This time I will take my time. LOL
