Considering selling my Tamron 70-200 and going for a 135L. Since acquiring a set of primes I have really enjoyed shooting with them. IQ is exceptional, and focus is accurate and fast. When I do bring the Tamron out, I love its IQ, but I rarely use it.

I would keep my 12-24 for the UW end of things, and the 24-70 as a lens for situations where I want to keep some flexibility without changing lenses.

Mostly I shoot snapshots around the house (28,50,85) & family events, and I like to night shoot acrchitecture (UWA). I unofficially shot a wedding for my wife's cousin and broke out the Tamron for that - it worked really well, but that was the last time I really used it.

Has anyone gone from a 70-200 for a 135L and regretted it? Or ended up adding the 70-200 right back to their collection because it was too necessary? I don't feel like I would miss it, and that I would get more out of the 135L, but don't want to let it go, just to want it right back...

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I'm in the same boat as you(only with a canon F4L), I find my self shooting at or right around 135 85% of the time, and the added speed and sharpness would be quite nice for indoor shooting. I just feel like there would be times where 200mm would be needed and I wouldn't have it in my line up.

If you are shooting in that range that much I would do it without hesitation. Actually, unless someone chimes in with some reason to keep on with a 70-200 that I really do not use, I think I will move forward with this plan. The samples section sold me on it...that 135L is an amazing lens!

Now...lets see if I can move that Tamron...

Why do you think you would use the 135L more than the 70-200. Are you sure you are not using it because it is a zoom, or because it is just too long for your normal day-to-day style?

Good point. I think it is just to long for my day-to-day stuff. Its also heavy and I have back problems. Once outdoors it can be great. As a matter of fact I just put it on and set it to 135mm to get a better feel for that focal length and it is actually still a bit on the long side for what would be indoor stuff.

I guess I figure a faster semi-long lens would be better than this thing spending so much time in my bag. Just rattled off a few shots though...the optics are really great on this Tamron...AF motor is loud though...

135 is too long on crop for most purposes. It becomes a really specialized lens. I like the sigma 85 1.4 better.

Yes, I am really happy with the 85 1.8.

Posted the Tamron in FS section to see what happens. This would be the first step anyhow and that could be a challenge in itself.

Good night all....and thanks!

I have a 70-200 f4 IS and I haven't used it since I bought the 135L 6 months ago.

I guess for my style of shooting, I don't need the extra length. If I do think I might, I bring along my 1.4x. Another reason is the 135L is more discrete.

I keep thinking of all the reasons not to, and then I look at the samples page...it is just an apparently magnificent lens...

Jantzer - I cannot agree with 135 being too long and/or specialized. Perhaps you had a certian subject in mind but made a general statement. 135 is not long enough for many things. 135mm is one of my favorite mms.
