Tonight I went to St Andrews to see the Students' musical theatre putting on a wonderful performance of Spring Awakening.

I deliberately went a little early to try to grab some photos. When I got there, I found that it was slightly raining, and it was bitterly cold. I went out and around with my Gorillapod and my G10, and stopped in horror when I found that the historical buildings were not, in fact, illuminated!

So, back to the car. I knew that I had packed my old 350D. Maybe, just maybe, the Gorillapod would be strong enough to hold it, if I stuck to the original kit lens.

I have to say I was delighted with the results - and equally - perhaps more so - with the show :)

First was St Andrew's Castle, a ten-second exposure illuminated by a couple of streetlamps maybe 50 yards from the castle.

Another ten second exposure of St Andrew's Cathedral

And finally a thirty second exposure of another part of the castle. My Gorillapod was wrapped round the railings (the site was closed by that time in the evening) and I was amazed that it was able to hold the camera tightly enough. As you can see from the clouds, there was quite a wind (and for the record, it was damned chilly!)

Some good shots. I love the intensity but the overly yellow light could be adjusted in lightroom etc.

Thank you everyone for the comments :)

@TekHouse: thank you. Someone else also said they found they found the colour a bit much. I can see the point for #2; I really love the colour in #3 - it speaks of a certain warmth and safety on a cold night.

Of course, maybe I should have been wearing a windproof jacket at the time and it wouldn't have been so important :)

Yeah the color is working. But I would be interested to see a more natural look to the light.

Thanks again - here's a version of it where I tried adjusting the colour to get the stones looking fairly natural

I rather like this one too, though I think perhaps it would be better if I darkened the sky a little
