My first 24-105 had creep straight out of the box. The second one did not. Just luck of the draw.

The front element is quite heavy and creating more stress on the gear? Maybe but I doubt it. What I think has done it in my case though is storing it that way with the hood attached. Not because of the weight when it is stored but because taking it in and out of the bag is zooming it in and out by the hood rather than by turning the zoom ring, which cannot be good for it. -- Ken

Might be best to dismount the hood when storing in a tight bag. Tom

It's been a known problem since day 1 and Canon has no interest in correcting the issue. The latest build's still contain this problem.

Noted the (substantial) creep when I bought it, as pointed out by the seller. Brought it home and applied black electrical tape, lengthways, to each side of the inner barrel. Problem solved, no creep. Probably cost about two cents. Just did the same thing myself - works like a charm. Gear List

I'm a big fan of underdog lenses, but my 28-105 was a dog compared with my 24-105, this is f/4 on my 24-105...(try the electrical tape - worked like a charm for me).... Gear List
