Female College Volleyball

This was my first attempt at volleyball (assignment for photojournalism/ the school newpaper). I took loads of pictures and came out with some keepers. The conditions were very tough, the arena that they shoot in is nicknamed the cave. I was shooting with a 50mm 1.8, shutter around 1/800th and iso ranging from 5000 to 6400 on a 7D. I made the mistake of not microfocusing my 50mm before the game and didnt feel confident with it until the game was almost over. I used topaz noise reduction on some of the shots.

It looks like one of those "tornado-proof" gyms/storm shelters that have been popping up recently. Is it?

Clarence nailed it. Did you go there or something?

nice shots. to me looks like you could have brought your iso and ss down a bit so it's not as grainy when you crop down so much for that second shot. probably could have gotten away with 1/320 1/500. don't know many girls that can swing that hard/fast except some of the bigger schools.
