Hi guys and gals,

I am thinking about ditching my XSi in order to fund a 60D. What do you guys think of the 60D as a step up from the XSi? Will I see a marked improvement in image quality? Also is the 60D any better in weather? I do not expect it to be fully weather sealed, I do not trust my XSi in weather at all. Also do you think the higher ISO values in the 60D are an improvement over the XSi?

I know most do not like the lighter weight of the 60D vs the 50D, but as a walk around candid shooter I really do like the lighter weight of the camera.

The main reasons for the up grade are:

-Better image quality (I like to crop my pictures quite a bit so higher MP are a huge plus)
-Faster FPS's
-Video
-Better layout of the controls, especially digging the buttons on the top of the 60D
-Really excited about the flip out screen.

So do you guys think that the 60D would would a worth while upgrade? The rest of my kit is below.

Thanks guys and gals.
Juan

I think XSi to 60D makes sense. I'm choosing to stick with my XSi for now though and collect better lenses - I'm looking forward to the next gen Canon bodies before I upgrade. I don't see a big enough difference in IQ for me to justify a body upgrade instead of lens upgrades. If you want better weather sealing however, I think you should look at the 7D vs the 60D. If it were me, I'd go with the 7D. I like the bigger body, better weather sealing and high fps.

I appreciate the input. The only down side I see to the 7D is the increased weight. Like I said, I do not really expect the 60D to be completely wether sealed, but if it is drizzly outside or super foggy would it be better than my XSi. I those situations I do not use my XSi at all right now.

Thanks again for the input. Anyone else?

I'd upgrade to something i wouldn't want to upgrade in a year or two. I'd get the 7D.

I tried the 60D and the only difference i noticed was better ISO and little faster. IQ was very similar to my XSI.

Thanks for the input. I am now really torn between saving for the 7D or still just picking up the 60D. Anyone else?

Have an XSi, went for the 60D, had it just over 24 hours, and having great fun. :D Well worth the upgrade. Naturally, a 7D would be better, but I can't justify dumping so much money into it for just the few things it does extra.
Tho I'd tell you one thing already. Maybe in good light at ISO 100 you wouldn't be able to tell the output apart, but when evening comes and you try 800, 1600 ISO or wanna go higher ... Well.
But the most immediate thing that just blew me away is the LCD. I put in a card I had been using on my XSi into the 60 when I got it, and there were some old pictures on the card. LCD quality is like night and day.
Also love the viewfinder and the thumbwheel :D

As to operation during a serious shoot, have to wait and see. Just experimenting so far, very impressed!

I am upgrading from the T2i to the 60d and IMO the main difference is the articulating screen. The older I get the less I like being the articulating component. It's time to let the camera do some more of the work.

Ah, I asked myself the same question. The 60D is a reasonable upgrade from the XSi, but you have to reason if you want to pay for a $1300 'Super Rebel.' In my opinion, even though it's older, the 50D has won my heart over in terms of built quality and durability. Yes, the 50D doesn't have video capability, yes the 50D is older, yes the 60D has three more megapixels than its successor, but the plastic-like feel of the 60D and the reduced size compared to the 50D made me very skeptical. In my hands, the 50D felt more structurally sound and durable.

This is one man's opinion, though.

The 60D has a better image quality "IQ", better ISO low light performance, High Definition video, 63 point metering, higher density pixel LCD display etc. Perhaps those features will ultimately win the skeptical heart over the previous larger, heavier XXD models.

just an opinion -

I can't figure out why the T2i was called the "baby 7D" but the 60D is called the "super rebel"...

maybe something to do with size and weight

really - Do you want to end up with a ridiculously small and lightweight camera like those poor schmucks in the old film analog era?

The 60D is bigger than the T2i.

Brought a 60D 2 days ago now. Come from a 400D (Xsi?). Love the "upgrade!" I got a decent sent of lens, well I think I have anyway.

I just want to say I do feel like I would have loved a 7D but not having the budget and also knowing I would not use all its features, this is great!
