Hey All,

I managed to get out and try a couple of night shots at the marina the other night; stepping a bit out of my normal comfort zone. I'd love to hear some others' thoughts/suggestions:

7D; 24-105 @ 45mm; 30s; f/20; ISO 800; tripod

It was a foggy night and I was trying for the star effect on the lights, hence the super small apertures. Getting the WB right was a small, PP miracle...I have no idea how I'd do WB properly in the camera in that sort of lighting.

Love to hear any thoughts/suggestions on how to do this better. Thanks for looking!

Given that these are night shots, I like the 1st one much better with the contrast of the lights against the dark background. This almost looks like an abstract painting....I love it.

The 2nd lacks contrast and looks OOF

I agree with Spike. I love the first one. I would straighten the horizon a little bit but the shot is killer.

I like them both, nicely done...The DOF in the second might seem like the boats midway on toward the top of the frame are OOF. Don't know if that is the case, just my thought. Edit, after noticing the exif it can't be DOF. Fog setting in or OOF?

It very well could be diffraction, I suspect, given the tiny aperture; but I'm trying to figure out where in the image I should be looking and what other people are seeing in regards to it.

Another vote for the first, there may be stronger auto noise reduction affecting the second plus half a minute is a long time for floating objects not to move.
