Well, we'd need more detail. A picture filled with clear blue sky will compress to a small image, whereas a picture with detail, not so much. If you can get a pic with a lot of detail and do the eport and it still comes out small, get back to us with posted examples, and you can also get the Raw file uploaded to a site like YouSendIt.com so we can check it out!

Here is a export of a 10mg file. The export was a virtual copy.

OK, a lot of "open space" there, but to get really objective, can you post the Raw file at a place like YouSendIt.com?

What are the PIXEL DIMENSIONS? Are you sure you're not resizing?

" Export resolution is set to 100%."

The compression level is a value from 1 to 100, so I suspect although you are using 100 for "quality", you have the resize checkbox checked.

What do you mean by "open space"?

Re size is not checked.

Then how come the image is 1024pixels high?

Maybe it would help if I explain my workflow. Once in a catolog. I create smart collection for the sizes I need. Then I take and create VC of the image for the size I need, rate it and it goes in the the collection. From there I crop. If it's a 8x10 I create a custom crop then I export at 100% and 300 dpi.

@ Rene I don't know that why I am asking here.

When you say you are exporting at 300 ppi, that indicates that you are resizing it. Go through your export options and de-select any resize options -- keep it to where your pixel dimensions are original and not set to "inches" and a ppi resolution.

Well, it appears that either your original image is small or your crop was way too close. With the image open, you can go to the Library module and the Metadata panel and your crop dimensions should show as well as your original dimensions (you may need to pull down the list of viewing options next to the Metadata label and select All.

From the looks of your Export panel what you are using is an image that is 1000x1000 pixels, whereas an uncropped out-of-camera image would be more along the lines of 2000x3000 for only a 6MP image (so it would be a size that matches your camera resoltion).

So, what is your original image -- a straight out-of-camera shot or something you "got" from somewhere? And if it is out-of-the-camera, how small are you trying to crop it?

Maybe do this for us: have the image in the Library module with that Metadata panel showing. Also, press I a couple of times until the image Info at the top of the screen shows file info (rather than shooting settings). Do a screen shot and post it here and we might get a clue.

.

That was my thought too, but I fired up LR3 and in the Export dialog using an Export preset that doesn't resize, the dimensions in that box default to 1000x1000, even though they're "greyed out" if "Resize to Fit" isn't checked.

I suspect that the photo is cropped too severely.
