I picked up a U2311H as my editing screen, but we all know it doesn't make the best gaming monitor.

Dell put this on sale.
E2311H
Its got good reviews, and Its a pretty good price (143 shipped)
I know Asus makes a good low cost monitor as well, but I figured this would be nice to pair with the U2311H since they are identical and would look a lot nicer on my desk...

Good addition?

Don't shoot yourself in the foot! Get a Sony GDM-FW900 (external link). It is the best widescreen gaming monitor ever made, period. Today's LCDs simply can't compete with it. It has no ghosting whatsoever, 0ms display lag, up to a 160Hz refresh rate, self-calibrates to perfect sRGB, and allows you to run at lower resolutions without degrading image quality (so you can hold onto your GPU for a little while longer before upgrading :)). There's even a way to repair every part of it yourself should anything go wrong (see this thread (external link)).

If you want to come down to long island I'm about to sell two of them (and I still have more lol).

A would seriously not get an old crt. AFAIK they need to be calibrated a LOT more regularly, as the screen drifts. They're huge, heavy, and use a lot of power. After using LCDs they'd look pretty weird too.

Heavy? Yes, but you'd only be lifting it twice in your life - once to put it on the desk, and again to throw it away when it's dead. You can't be that lazy.

Power Hungry? No. In fact, my LCD uses more power than it does, even when displaying a full white screen. And other than color calibrations (which are equal to what you'd do on an LCD), you only need to calibrate it once every 5 years. Again, it's not much to ask for.

I know you're probably thinking of how bad your old CRTs used to be, but remember: your old monitors were probably hunks of $50 junk. Just like LCDs have huge differences in quality, so do CRTs. And this CRT happens to be one of the best ever made. In fact, you'd have to spend over $1000 on an LCD to get the same image quality (and that's only for still images!). It's like me saying that all LCDs are junk just because I used some crappy eMachines monitor that I got for free.

And no matter how you slice it, all but the worst CRTs are superior for gaming.

Clearly you neglected to acknowledge my concern was having a matching monitor to my u2311h, also, I don't really care if it's 0ms, if that was the case I would have posted a 0ms monitor. 5ms is fine for SCii and CoD

Thanks though

You're right, I apologize. I just thought performance would be more important than looks, otherwise I don't see why you'd even be posting this thread.

P.S.: No LCD is really 5ms. They play with their measurement methods to get numbers that low. The correct measurement is more like 30ms - even for the fastest TN panels.

It was more of a "Should I buy the E2311H or a 2nd U2311H" Or a comparative gaming monitor in the same or lower price range and forget about matching aestetics

Try gaming on the U2311h for yourself. If you find it acceptable, get a second one. If not, then I guess you'll just have to live with a TN panel!

Would be nice, but the stupid U2311H wasn't scheduled to be delivered until dec 7th, and the sale was only 2-3 days long

That's a pretty rude tone, considering you don't know the background of the party you're directing it at.

Go on the site and check your tracking number! I ordered a U3011 during that same sale and Dell's site said Dec 7th, yet the Fedex tracking number shows that it's going to be delivered today. So check that first!

If he's somehow disabled and therefore can't physically lift a CRT onto his desk, then I'll be more than willing to apologize for making a small joke like that. So unless that's the case, being that you seem to be the expert on what's rude and what isn't, you should apologize for making such a chastising comment in public. Posting this here instead of sending it to me in a PM says to me that you're trying to make a fool out of me, which is by far ruder than anything I might have said earlier in the thread.

Forget all that, the monitor is more important! What's the tracking say? Mine just got delivered an hour ago :)
