that´s a great comparision, it would be awesome if you took some shots side to side to see if the double struts have some effect in the modeling

how much for the SP? is the difference considerable?

I've been eyeing this octa for over a year now wondering the same thing. Thanks for showing a picture of them side by side. I own the SP 27x27 version of this softbox and it's built the exact same way...paired ribs and flush to the sides inner diffuser.

The bonus is you can mount these modifiers on the bracket that comes with the Lasolite/Cheetah Qbox/Ebay variety boxes and easily use it with your speedlight. Minus the indirect mount, the 27" version is a nice alternative to the Westcott Apollo...though it is a bulkier closed.

I too would be interested in seeing the comparison light wise vs. the DO.

Very true. I tested just such a setup back in April of 2008:

Hawk,
I don't have anything for Saturday.
Maybe we can set something up.
PM me and we can work out the details.

How would you go about attaching this to a Speedotron Black Line head?

My village called. I was told that they missed me.

Speedotron users, untie!

Excellent info. My Qbox24 should be on the big brown truck headed my way so nice to know I could use this with that bracket!

Yes, SP provides a choice of speed ring adapters for a good number of light manufacturers. It ships with the Excalibur ring:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …1&N=4289244476+4289266287 (external link)

The three thumb screws hold the ring into place...as it does with the Qbox type adapters. Shown is a Bowens ring resting on top of Qbox type bracket for illustration purpose. The Bowens ring makes it easy to use and a solid system with the Cheetah Speed Pro:

BTW the 27x27 version of this box is also very deep. I measured about 25" deep (inside back of the box to the lip).

So if I were to get this box I'd be able to use it with my Genesis strobes and my hotshoe flashes since I have the Ezybox adapter?

Sounds like a good deal to me. Would love to see sample images where this box was used.

Well, you'll be able to show that it produces good light, which is the bottom line.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)
