Well the justification for me to keep the 24-70mm f2.8 is because there are times that I need to go wide (wider than 35mm) to get group shots. I primarily take pictures of my 1 year old son and some family portraits. Nothing professionally, this is just a hobby and I don't get paid for it.
The zoom is nice, but when I'm indoors I'd rather use a prime and most of the time I find that the 50mm 1.4 is still a little too long for my liking. I don't have a huge house, but it's not all that small either. My thinking is that if I get the 35mm L, it would be on my camera 90% of the time indoors and I could just foot zoom to get closer if I need to. I know the 35mm can't give you the same effect of the 70mm end of the zoom because when you're that close in on a subject, it's going to look distorted.
I may rent the 35mm L this weekend if I can to test it out. I definitely can't keep both the 35mm and 24-70mm, because the 24-70mm would be used to fund the 35mm. I also have another lens upgrade that I didn't mention. I was thinking of selling my 70-200mm f4 IS L & 85mm f1.8 to buy the 70-200mm f2.8 IS II. So my future lens setup could be this: 35mm f1.4L, 50mm f1.4, and 70-200mm f2.8 IS II. Any thoughts?
